Time : July 15 to 31, 2015

The Institute for Political Methodology (IPM), held July 15- 31, 2015, in Taipei, provides a unique opportunity for graduate students and junior faculty to receive quantitative training and to meet distinguished methodologists.
This year we are pleased to announce that the Prof. Patrick Brandt (School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences, The University of Texas, Dallas), Prof. Jon C. Rogowski (Dept. of Political Science, Washington University in St. Louis), and Prof. Etsuhiro Nakamura (Faculty of Law and Letters, Ehime University) will join us. The key themes for the 2015 IPM will be Categorical Data Analysis. In addition, a number of basic courses are also offered each year, including regression, categorical data analysis, and introductions to Stata and R. Moreover, the annual curriculum includes several survey courses associated with off-year themes. Daily schedules at the IPM consist of lectures and lab sessions. Further information about IPM can be found at http://www.ipmasia.org(Open a URL in a new tab)
The 2015 IPM is scheduled between July 15 and 31, 2015 and will be conducted over two consecutive sessions. The first session will be held between July 15 and 24, while the second session will be held between July 27 and 31. Classes of the first session will be conducted in English and classes of the second session will be taught in English. International participants who complete the first session will receive a certificate. The number of participants will be limited to 20. International participants are responsible for their own airfare and the IPM will provide local lodgings. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us at IPMasia.service@gmail.com. The IPM course includes three parts: basic statistical courses, theme courses, and game theory, with the first two as the main parts. Students are expected to participate in all courses. The total class hours are 97 (13 days), including lectures, labs, and student presentation. The main theme of this year is causal inference which includes the following topics:
● CDA I: Regression with Categorical Dependent Variables
● CDA II: Discrete Choice Models
● Item Response Theory
● Event Count Model
● Event Count Time Series
● Event Count Analysis vs. IRT
● Statistical Backward Induction
In addition to the theme course, a number of basic courses are also offered. They include regression, categorical data analysis, game theory, and introductions to Stata and R. Besides, in 2015 IPM will also include several survey courses associated with off-year themes.
