The scientific study of political phenomenon through quantitative methods is by now an established development in the political science discipline, with such work proliferating in international political science journals. Yet, quantitative methods in the social sciences is not widely applied in Taiwan. Those with expertise and interest in the area are dispersed throughout various departments, rendering methodological scholarship an arduous endeavour. Through topical examinations of methodological issues, the Institute of Political Methodology (IPM) aims both to facilitate interaction among this community and to increase the overall skill level of those within this community. Furthermore, in its twelfth year, the IPM seeks to continue the international dispersion of quantitative political methodology by inviting scholars and students from other Asian countries. Feedback shows that participants find the material taught to be interesting and useful and are interested in continuing such studies.
