The International Conference on “The Logic of Civil Society in New Democracies: East Asia and East Europe” invites scholars specializing on democratization and civil societies from the United States, European Union, South Korea and Taiwan to discuss the logic of civil societies in new democracies. Papers delivered will draw on experiences of Taiwan and South Korea in East Asia and Poland and Hungary in East Europe. The focus of this conference will cover social movement, labor movement, contentious politics, and quality of democracy. By holding this pioneering conference, IPSAS expects to enhance the understanding of how civil society operates in new democracies.
