 Yu-Shan Wu joined the IPSAS in 2002 as one of the founding members and the first director of the Institute. He holds a concurrent appointment as professor in political science at National Taiwan University. From 2000 on he also serves as convener of political science at National Science Council. His major interests are in comparative socialist transitions (both political and economic), democratic consolidation and constitutional engineering, cross-Strait relations, and international relations theories. His area focuses are Taiwan, mainland China, Eastern Europe and Russia. He is the author of Comparative Economic Transformations: Mainland China, Hungary, the Soviet Union, and Taiwan and many other books and journal articles. He is currently working on political succession on mainland China, comparative semi-presidentialism, post-September 11 international relations theories, and the interaction of external and internal factors in Washington-Taipei-Beijing triangular relations.
